The house where Israel was born — Pathways

TLV1, in conjunction with Jewish National Fund, continues its ‘Pathways’ series of radio reports examining Israel’s history.

Each week we visit a different historical site in Israel, bringing you sounds, stories, and illuminating perspectives.

In this audio slideshow, narrated by Liya Spiegel, we visit Beit Haatzmaut, where the State of Israel was born. The house was built in 1909 in the Jewish neighborhood of Ahuzat Bayit, on a desolate sand dune near the ancient port city of Jaffa. It was in this house that the plans were made to develop and expand the neighborhood into the city of Tel Aviv.
