In 2007, Israeli winemaker Shuki Yashuv of Agur Winery surrendered the right to touch his own wine when he turned his winery kosher. Despite being Jewish, Shuki is not considered a “kosher worker.”

Host David Rhodes also meets winemaker Shiki Rauchberger at Teperberg, one of Israel’s oldest kosher wineries, to understand how kosher wine is made and who is allowed to make it.

Rabbi Nachum Rabinowitz, Senior Rabbi at the Orthodox Union, sets these handling restrictions in context; historically, they were considered an important way of preventing intermarriage and assimilation.
