Shay Hazkani, a doctoral candidate in history and Israel Studies at New York University, has studied the letters written by ordinary soldiers during the War of Independence. He explains to host Gilad Halpern how the letters display an attitude towards the emerging Jewish State that was far less reverential than one might expect.
