Lifta, sometimes referred to by its biblical name Mei Neftoach, was a Palestinian Arab village on the outskirts of Jerusalem. In the violence of 1948, its affluent Palestinian community was forced to flee. Soon after, Jewish immigrants from Arab countries were settled in their empty homes. Those families are now being forcibly evicted, and Israel’s Land Authority plans to replace Lifta with luxury villas, burying its memories underneath.
Yacoub is a Palestinian born in Lifta. So was Yoni, an Israeli born to Kurdish immigrants. Can they protect this hallmark to ancient and modern history together?
