“Liberal” and “nationalist” sound like mutually exclusive forces that cannot coexist. Yet Yuli Tamir, scholar, peace activist and a former government minister, makes the liberal case for nationalism, and argues for a nationalism that is liberal, in her book Why Nationalism.

  2. Another excellent and very timely episode from the Tel Aviv Review! Two very important points here: Tamir’s point that national identities are a crucial part of who we are and serve as the foundation of many institutional structures, and Dahlia’s point that nationalism is like medicine– even if we need it, too much can be deadly. TLVR makes such a helpful contribution, in hosting a conversation in which both these points get made!
