Swapping frites for falafel: The future of Belgium’s Jews

 

A month ago Brussels was on maximum terror alert, with schools, transport, and shops closed for business. As police hunted for those suspected of planning the Paris terror attacks, Jews were mulling their future in Belgium. Some began to plan their exit.

TLV1’s Laragh Widdess, a resident of Brussels for five years, speaks to three Belgian Jews with different perspectives on the threats Jews face in the land of moules-frites. Noemi Schlosser, a young theatre director from Antwerp, is planning her Aliyah. Betty Dan, a veteran of the Brussels Jewish community, also explains why she wants to move to Israel. Victor Franco, on the other hand, takes his Belgian identity more seriously than ever, and is staying put. For now…
