You might think that Tel Aviv, with its reputation as an easy-going, 24-hour, cosmopolitan party city, would be a great place for dating. A new show called DATE ME in TLV, written and directed by Noemi Schlosser, bursts that bubble with tales of desperate women, self-involved men, and over-involved mothers.

Schlosser is no stranger to TLV1. You can hear a reading of her last production, Traktorfabrik, here. A dark tragicomedy about three men stuck in a bunker in wartime Russia, the play was boycotted in Schlosser’s native Belgium, forcing her to do some soul-searching.

Schlosser has returned to Tel Aviv to “lick her wounds,” prepare for making Aliyah, and to find love. In trying to find “the one” to settle down with, Schlosser was inspired to write a comedy about dating in the White City.

TLV1’s Laragh Widdess attended the showcase of DATE ME, scheduled to run in the spring, which included a Q&A session with a panel of “sexperts.” She spoke to Schlosser afterwards, as well as to her two actresses Ayala Shiftan and Yifat Sharabi. Together they tried to work out why dating in Tel Aviv is just so damned hard.
