The lay of the land on Israel’s holiday of trees

 

Tu BiShvat, Israel’s Arbor Day, is today. One of the traditional things to do is to plant trees. But this year is a shmita year – a biblically ordained period that comes every seven years in which Jews are instructed to let the land lie fallow.

So what to do on Tu BiShvat when you can’t plant trees? Writer and educator Dasee Berkowitz joins host Ilene Prusher to suggest some alternative and meaningful ways to mark the holiday.
