In 1975, 11-year-old Ernesto Piven arrived with his family from Montevideo, Uruguay. To get over his sense of alienation, he started drawing cartoons. When he was rejected by the Betzalel Academy for Art and Design in Jerusalem, Piven went to New York where he attained international success. Something, however, was missing, he says.
Ten years later, Piven returned to Israel and immediately felt at home. His career as an illustrator, cartoonist and educator has won international success. Today, he splits his life between Barcelona and Israel – which, he says, offers him just the right balance.
