Miriam Herschlag and Noah Efron talk about (1) Whether or not it’s true, like so many people are saying, that the upcoming elections are maybe the most consequential in the country’s history, and (2) How a small, new right-wing party might dash the hope that lots of us have for a better future after the elections.

For our most unreasonably generous Patreon supporters, in our extra-special, special extra discussion: For people who maybe care about Israel but don’t live here, what are the most important things for them to understand about the upcoming elections and why?

Plus: Rats, the new year, and a tribute to the great Bible scholar, Uriel Simon, of blessed memory.

    as always- thank you
but especially thank you for your en memoriam for Prof. Uriel Simon
i was lucky enough to take his course on the Akeidah- i benefited greatly from his intellectual passion, his analytical elegance and his empathetic engagement with the entire class. He saw where people were and he, softly, pushed them to go higher and deeper, to get out of their comfort zones and engage the material.

    1. Noah Efron says:

Oh my G-d, Ronnie, what I wouldn’t have given to take Uriel Simon’s course on the Akeidah, of all courses (though also his courses on Yonah and Shimshon). I gather that he was a remarkable teacher and it gives me a lot of pleasure to know that you are among his students. It must have meant a great deal to him. I hope that he had a chance to visit you at YU, and get that Naches.

It was so nice of you to write with a kind word. I am grateful.

thank you! i sadly did not keep up with him – so many teachers that remain in my kishkes! and yet i did not keep up contact with them – alas!
