Allison, Noah, and special guest Ilene Prusher discuss the Israeli Central Election Committee’s decision to bar two candidates from running for the Knesset this week: Balad MK Haneen Zoabi and Yachad prospective MK Baruch Marzel. One is an anti-Zionist, Hamas-sympathizing Palestinian, the other an ultra-nationalist former Meir Kahana acolyte, whose xenophobic, some say racist, and definitely anti-LGBTQ activism make him, to some, a fearful figure of anti-liberalism.
Israel’s Supreme Court has now overturned the disqualifications, but we look at whether the initial decision to ban these controversial figures was justified in either case.
