Ben-Gurion University president Rivka Carmi stripped human rights NGO Breaking the Silence of a prize it had been offered by the university. Allison, Don, and Noah ask whether it simply reflects pusillanimous wussiness.
This is a segment from the “Deprizing, Despising & Deriding the Left?” Edition.
Astonishing. A disturbing podcast. This is another example of the disintegration of so many of the academics everywhere, including America and Israel. I am a proud “liberal” but emphasis on the so-called occupation without offering a proposal for how to end it, is irresponsible. Why not emphasize the Palestinian perpetual refusal to accept the existence of Israel and negotiate a two-state solution? Is unilateral withdrawal, and its accompanying creation of a Gaza like hate filled terrorist entity, a viable solution? Is there any denial that those peaceful Palestinians who favor a solution, other than the destruction of Israel, would be quickly overwhelmed by the terrorists (even if those terrorists are a numerical minority)? Isn’t that exactly what has happened everywhere else in the Middle East?
Is there a culture of “death,” theirs and ours, that dominates the entire Middle East?
Haven’t there been a series of serious attempts by Israel, to agree to two peaceful states?
That is why many of us, liberals, oppose the suicidal declarations of those groups who claim that it is the occupation that is the obstacle to peace, rather than that it is a security necessity, until the Palestinians end teaching their children that acts of terrorism are their ideal goal, and are honored as acts of pure heroism.
This segment is not about the occupation. We’ve discussed the topic on many previous episodes and will likely do so on many more. I hope you would agree that if every discussion of an issue would boil down to the occupation then the podcast would be monotonous and boring. We go out of our way to ensure we remain on topic and maintain focus and clarity.
So please. Do not be disturbed. Listen to the full show and get a sense of the many issues that plague Israelis as they go about their daily lives. Come to realize the complexity of a place like Israel. Happy listening.
