Israelis are the most prolific users of prenatal genetic testing. Noah, TLV1’s Gilad Halpern and The Forward’s Naomi Zeveloff ask: Why are we so eager to have only “perfect” babies?

Not only does Israel lack the concern for bio-technology, it seems there is totally ignorance and denial about the sensate and consciousness development of the fetus. So that any abortion, for any reason some, possibly justified, are experienced with a measurable pain response, if not, terror, from the developing life. Having this discussion without factoring in this fundamental reality, is frighteningly mechanistic and not so different than our worst enemies.
My wife and I live in the UK, but I write as a supporter of Israel.
We were offered prenatal testing but refused it when we were informed that it might lead to an abortion, if an abnormality were to be discovered.
As Christians, we could not possibly do that. However, we did have identical twins which frequently die through blood transference via their shared womb.
They only just survived. One was white, the other was dark red. We know that many similar parents were not so blessed. An operation in the womb would probably have saved them by dividing the placemats blood vessels.
So intervention of this kind can be amazingly successful. Abortion, no!
Thank you. Chris
