  1. Jill says:

The ultra orthodox must work, pay taxes, and serve in the IDF for two years as do other Israelis, or they will never under the reality of Israel’s miracle. If not, they will never be equal players and should not have input into Israeli government workings.

    1. Noah J Efron says:

      Thank you for writing, Jill!

I definitely see the logic of what you are saying, but I think I disagree about making the army the thing that divides “real” Israelis, deserving of equal rights, from everyone else. Once you give the army that status, then you’ve also consigned all the Palestinian citizens of Israel to an inferior position. And also the large and growing portion of non-Ultra-Orthodox Jews who do not serve in the army. There ought to be lots of ways to be a good citizen.

(And, of course, ultra-Orthodox do pay taxes; they only pay less per capita, because they earn less.)

  2. Babi has lost the plot, he is dishonest and I am sad to say Israel is at an important cross road, no I am not sad, it is time to recognise that some changes are necessary and that time is now.
