In a country where everybody tells you what to do, how to do it, and when, it’s only natural the word “adif” – “it’s preferable” – would be a word you hear every day. Host Guy Sharett explores the “adif” family, and shows us the link between preference, priority, and pasta.

Hayiti adifut shniya – I was second priority – הייתי עדיפות שנייה

Adifut/Adifuyot – Priority, priorities – עדיפות/עדיפויות

Adifut gvoha yoter – Higher priority – עדיפות גבוהה יותר

Latet adifut le-mashehu – To give priority to something – לתת עדיפות למשהו

Seder adifuyot – List of priorities – סדר עדיפויות

Kos mayim ve-heshbon – A glass of water and the bill – כוס מים וחשבון

Odef – Change (money), extra, surplus – עודף

Yesh lecha odef? – Do you have any change? – ?יש לך עודף

Odef mishkal – Overweight – עודף משקל

Odafim – Surplus – עודפים

Leha’adif – To prefer – להעדיף

Ani ma’adifa lishtok – I prefer to keep quiet – אני מעדיפה לשתוק

Ma hayita ma’adif, ma hayit ma’adifa? – What would you prefer? – ?מה היית מעדיף, מה היית מעדיפה

Ani ma’adif pasta al humus – I prefer pasta over hummus – אני מעדיף פסטה על חומוס

Eizo hultsa ata ma’adif? – Which shirt do you prefer? – ?איזו חולצה אתה מעדיף

Mu’adaf – Preferred, favored – מועדף

Ha’adafa – Preference – העדפה

Yesh lecha ha’adafa kolshehi? – Do you have any preference? – ?יש לך העדפה כלשהי

Haadafa metakenet – Affirmative action – העדפה מתקנת
