As mentioned, I’d see the big problem here being the egos involved deciding who to lead the party. I’d like to see them agree to put together a unified front in principle before deciding the leader. As part of that agreement would be a decision to allow public polling/referendum (a primaries of sorts) to determine who the leader will ultimately be. The players involved would all agree to get behind the party and respect the decision of constituents as to who the leader would be once that decision is made. Choosing the leader first seems only destined for failure, or at best, a drawn out process with energy wasted on battling each other that could be used more productively.
