The visionary pioneers of Beit Yellin – Pathways

TLV1, in conjunction with Jewish National Fund, is pleased to introduce ‘Pathways,’ an exciting new series of radio reports examining Israel’s history.

Each week we visit a different historical site in Israel, bringing you sounds, stories, and illuminating perspectives.

In this report, prepared by journalist Mordechai I. Twersky and narrated by Meredith Ross, we visit Beit Yellin in Motza, the picturesque, hillside suburb of Jerusalem.

This charming, recently restored 19th-century building was a hotel where Jaffa–Jerusalem travelers would spend their last night before reaching the Holy city. It was built by the pioneering Yellin family.

The hotel later became a synagogue, and the lands became one of the country’s first Jewish farms.
