Laredet, to go down, is the opposite of La’alot, to go up. But the root ירד has so many other meanings. We use it to talk about the rain, internet downloads, mocking our friends, taking shots of alcohol, and more raunchy terms you should definitely know – which is why this episode isn’t suitable for younger listeners. Sorry kids!

Ole hadash, olim hadashim – New immigrant/s to Israel – עולה חדש, עולים חדשים

Yored, yordim – Israelis who left Israel (negative) – יורד, יורדים

Yerida – leaving Israel – ירידה

Yored al mishehu – He’s mocking someone – יורד על מישהו

Dai laredet alai – Stop coming down on me/mocking me – די לרדת עליי

Yeridot al mishehu – mocking ‘attacks’ on someone – ירידות על מישהו

Ata yored alai mul kulam – You’re mocking me in front of everybody – אתה יורד עליי מול כולם

Dai im ha-yeridot al ha-marak sheli – Stop mocking my soup – די עם הירידות על המרק שלי

Yeridot mehirim – Decrease in prices – ירידות מחירים

Yored geshem – It’s raining – יורד גשם

Tsarich mitriya – You need an umbrella – צריך מטרייה

Etmol lo yarad geshem – Yesterday it didn’t rain – אתמול לא ירד גשם

Mahar lo amur laredet geshem – Tomorrow it’s not supposed to rain – מחר לא אמור לרדת גשם

Laredet le- – To go down on someone (sexual) – לרדת למישהו

Hu yarad la – He went down on her – הוא ירד לה

Hi yarda lo – She went down on him – היא ירדה לו

Hu yarad lo – He went down on him – הוא ירד לו

Hi yarda la – She went down on her – היא ירדה לה

Ba lach laredet li? ba lecha laredet li? – Do you feel like going down on me? –  בא לך לרדת לי?

Lehorid – To lower, take off – להוריד

Hu horid hultsa – He took off his shirt – הוא הוריד חולצה

Torid oti kan bevakasha – Please drop me off here – תוריד אותי כאן בבקשה

Ata yachol lehorid oti kan? – Could you please drop me off here? – אתה יכול להוריד אותי כאן?

Anashim moridim sratim/aplikatsiot/shirim – People download movies/apps/songs – אנשים מורידים סרטים/אפליקציות/שירים

Lehorid shotim/chaserim – To do shots – להוריד שוטים/צ’ייסרים

Hem horidu shotim beyachad – They did shots together – הם הורידו שוטים ביחד

Bo norid kama shotim – Let’s do some shots – בוא נוריד כמה שוטים

Lehorid kafa le–mishehu – To give someone a smack on the head – להוריד כאפה למישהו

Ze ma–ze horid li mimenu –What he did really put me off – זה מה-זה הוריד לי ממנו
